If you're using MSN Explorer and have tried to follow our tutorial on [Hotmail Smileys] or [More Hotmail] then you'd have found out that the structure and setup of Hotmail inside MSN Explorer is a little different to the screenshots that accompany the tutorials....
The shots below show my Hotmail account being accessed within MSN Explorer but in two different ways... ..
In this screenshot I have accessed my Hotmail account using the Email icon on the toolbar..
and in this screenshot I have access my Hotmail account by typing in the url http://www.hotmail.com
At a quick glance they look very similar of not exactly the same.. but if you put your nose up the monitor you'll see that they are quite different... the layout and features available when you use the Email Icon to access to your account are not the stock standards ones you'd find if you accessed Hotmail using another browser or if you accessed it by typing in the url..
the differences are...
Using the Email icon to access your account...
There are 3 tabs available...
My Email
Write Email
Address Book...
On the Write Email tab the html features you can use are a little different and there is no option to use smileys/emoticons (the smiley button is missing)
Using http://www.hotmail.com to access you're account you will notice you have 4 tabs available..
Home
Inbox
Compose
Address Book
and from the Compose tab you will notice you can have the option to use/insert smileys/emoticons as the button to insert them into your email is available...
Starting to make sense? If you want to use the msn smileys/emoticons in your hotmail/msn mail then you need to access your account by typing in or bookmarking the url http://www.hotmail.com DON'T access it by using the Email icon as you'll find the smiley option is not available.
Note: if you type in the url (or use it from bookmark) you may see the dialog box as shown below...
don't click on Read My Hotmail in MSN as this will simply load the "lite" version of hotmail into your browser without the option to use smileys.. instead click on Go To Hotmail Web Site :-)
