Inserting pictures into html formatted email is a lot of fun and can add a bit
of life and personality to any message. This is detailed step by step example
of how to go about doing this.. we're using Micorsoft Outlook Express 5.5 and
graphics sourced from
[CoolGraphics.com] < 11 April 2003...where has Cool Graphics gone? :(
which we saved to the computer in a folder named
CoolGraphics
EOB, here we go...
Launch Outlook Express
on the
Tools Menu hit
New Mail
the graphic below is an example of what an
html formatted email message will look like, it identifies
the parts of the New Message window so if you get lost simply refer to it
Make sure the
email format is Rich Text/Html and
not Plain Text
If it's set to Plain Text you wont see formatting tools (as shown above)
here's how to
change to Html format...
on the
Control Menu
select
Format
select
RichText/Html
tada..
simple!
Type your message and where you want to add a graphic..
hit
Insert on the
Control Menu
select
Image
you'll be presented with the following
Picture dialog box..
hit
Browse
now navigate your way to the
folder with the smileys/graphics
personally have one main Smiley folder and within that is a range of subfolders.
Each subfolder is has the name of the site where I obtained the graphic.. thats
so I can quickly identify the source and give credit where credit is due :-)
select the
smiley/graphic you want to insert
hit
Open
the
Picture dialog box reappears with the path to
the image defined...
Hit
OK and your done
repeat the process for each picture you want to insert :-)
Right, now it's the time to
do the right thing by giving
credit where credit is due ;-)
make the last line of your email the
credit line...
type in the
name of the site where you obtained the graphics
from, in our case it was www.cooltext.com
as your using
html format the link will be
automatically
become active
You'll feel better for doing it :-)
