I
can't say enough about Fool's
House really, perhaps it's best summed up as "...if you're an animated
smiley connoisseur you'll simply adore the collection that is available there,
in fact no other smiley will ever seem the same again...".
The native language of Fool's
House is Russian and
most of the content is available as such but some of the content has been translated
to English so if
your
Russian is a bit thin on the ground or you find that http://babelfish.altavista.com
does a less than adequate job translating it across then stick to the English
version and cruise around between Art
Zen, Smilies
and Workshop
then if you're happy to poke around some more do check out the remaining pages
in the Russian version as
there is more content available there.
The
best part is about Fool's
House is thatthe animated smileys in the collection are all original because
this is a creators site so you're not buried knee deep in
oodles
of smileys of varying styles or quality which is so often the case with many
"collector or mass smiley" sites. Fool's
House (IMHO), has some of the
very best smileys available on the net, not only for today but for many
more days and years to come. The smileys
are truly distinctive and you'll be able to spot them a mile away simply because
of their unique design and quality.
At
the moment there are 9 pages of smileys
on offer with approx 20 smileys per page, if you're on a good connection and
/ or simply just want to get your hands on all the currently available ones
then
you're best bet is to head directly to the english version of All
Smilies as this contains exactly what it implies, all the smilies currently
available :) If you flip the Russian
All Smilies version you'll notice a download link titled zip [600Kb] in
the right hand margin, as at the time of writing this article the zip file (Fool
House.zip) contains 166 smilies, some of which are different to
the
English All Smilies
page and in return some that are featured on the English
page haven't been included in the zip download. Your best to bet is to grab
and download the zip file then trot along to the last couple of pages of the
English version
and make sure you have all the latest and greatest.
The
other perk about Fool's
House is that if you don't happen to have a your own webspace or have limited
space then you're aok still as you can direct link to the smileys that are available.
Simply click on the smiley you wish to copy to a forum post, email etc and then
head to the top display
field
and copy the highlighted code.. simple :) The code is available in ubb, html,
ezboard and url format so just select the desired format before you select the
smiley and you're all ready to go, if you're unsure then check the examples
below...

ubb =
html = <img src="http://fool.exler.ru/sm/yaya.gif">

Another
added bonus that you'll find at Fool's
House is a really excellent tutorial
for making smileys using Adobe Photoshop 6 and built-in animator ImageReady,
if you don't have or use Adobe Photoshop
6
and ImageReady then it's still well worth checking out as there is a heap of
information available and the steps shown can be replicated in many graphic
and animation programs. The tutorial
is in english and outlines the following stages Introduction,
Drawing,
Animation 1,
Animation 2,
Optimization,
Cropping
and Presentation
and each stage is very user friendly with supporting graphics outlining the
process, so if you're a smiley plonker but never quite new where or who to start
making your own smileys then you're going to be in 7th heaven and then some
:)
...Fool's
House is one of the best places on the net to go for original, high quality,
super fast load smileys, something we dialup users greatly appreciate :) If
you have a few minutes up your sleeve trot along and check it out now, it's
also well worth bookmarking / adding to your favourites and checking back often
as new smileys appear on a regular basis
