Computer Defrag
It's important to Defrag (Defragment) your hard drive regularly as this rearranges the files in a logical order, filling in 'holes' (made by uninstalled software, deleted files etc) repairing errors...overall it'll improve the performance of your computer by allowing it access files faster.

Like ScanDisk, Defrag should also be used as part of your regular maintenance program, but it too, can also be run by itself should the need arise so don't hesitate to use it.

Run Defrag
NOTE: Don't forget to turn your ScreenSaver OFF! Right Click your desktop, select Properties, hit the ScreenSaver tab, select None, hit ok
Now you can Defrag by....
Hit Start on the Taskbar
Select Programs
Select Accessories
Click System Tools
Select Disk Defragmenter
Select the Drive you want to Defrag
Hit OK

If you want to change the default settings before you run Defrag...
Hit Start on the Taskbar
Select Programs
Select Accessories
Click System Tools
Select Disk Defragmenter
Select the Drive you want to Defrag
Hit Settings
Under When Defragmenting My Hard drive put a check mark beside Rearrange Program Files and Check the Drive for Errors
Under I Want to Use the Options select either This Time Only or Every time I defragment my hard drive
Select OK to save your settings
Select OK to start defragmenting your hard drive

You can still use your computer while defrag is running we strongly recommend that you don't do this as it makes you computer run a lot slower, the process of defragging takes a lot longer and if the program you're using writes data to your hard disk the current defrag cease and restart right from the beginning again!

Problems running Defrag?
You're not alone especially if you find that it'll stop/restart at around 10%
Click Start
Select Run
In the Open box type msconfig
On the General tab check Selective startup then
Uncheck all the boxes for
System.ini files
Win.ini files
Load static VxD
Load Startup Group items
Load Environment variables
Hit Apply
Hit OK
Now Restart windows then run Defrag
When it's complete go back to msconfig and select Normal Startup , then restart windows again

Defrag can also be done in Safe Mode
Hit Start
Click Shutdown
Select Restart
Hit Ok
Hold the Ctrl key (or F8) as your computer reboots (before the Windows splash screen appears)then from the Menu select Safe Mode. When it boots to windows run defrag from there. After it's complete restart your computer

NOTE:
If you're having trouble with [ScanDisk] you can use the same methods as stated above
