The Microsoft Knowledge base articles are a comprehensive data base
of information provied by Microsoft for users to troubleshoot their
own problems which makes it an essential tool to have on hand if
your computer software/hardware starts to play up. Now if you've
ever been to their [site]
and had difficulty locating the information or found your search
returned a 0 result don't worry because you're not alone! If you
have a quick read of [THIS]
article you'll understand why. Like who knew that if you were running
Windows ME and you had a hardware error message you had to enter
in "kbwinme and kbhw and kberrmsg"!!!! Oh brother! But all that
aside it's still quite a fickle wee contraption and the best results
seem to be achieved when you search "By Product" (try not to use
"All Microsoft Products"), then check "Keyword Search" and limit
your words to begin with...adding more if it returns postive results
to filter out what's irrelevant. Leave the remainding Search Options
at the defaults set and away you go. If you have the time you might
want to try the "Specific Troubleshooting Tool" option instead which
is extremely good once you're in but not all products have this
option available so it can be hit and miss. Either way whatever
option you choose it won't hurt to keep your fingers crossed when
you click the "GO" button...
If you want more information on Microsoft's idea of "keywords" these
two articles are worth reading and printing off for future references...
