Smileys in Email Hotmail More

In [Hotmail Smileys] we covered how to insert MSN's own smileys/emoticons into your email.. in this tutorial we're covering how to enter server based smileys... this time our Rich-Text Editor (RTE) is OFF!

NOTE: if you're using MSN Explorer as you're browser please read [Using MSN Explorer?]

Login to [www.hotmail.com]
hit the Compose Tab..
Hotmail Compose... RTE is set to OFF
you need to have the RTE off.. this can be a little confusing so check the pic below. When it states RTE On.. it's asking do you want to turn it on.. not that it IS on..
RTE is set to OFF
if the above setting looks the same then continue.. if you see RTE Off then you need to select that to turn if off.

We need to make the message an HTML environment so at the top of the email goes the following opening tag and at the very bottom your closing tag
once you've done that, proceed with writing your email in between the two tags...
email with HTML opening and closing tags

once you've finished your text and are ready to insert your smileys minimize the Hotmail browser window launch a new one and head over to...

cruise around the site and find the smileys you want to include in your email.
The smilies available are coded for html use and for ubb use.. the coding your after is HTML.

Once you have found the smiley you wish to use..
right click the smiley code
select Copy
maximize your email
right click where you want to place the smiley
select Paste
keep going as above until you have inserted all the smileys, then add the additional html to complete the formatting...
I know it looks an upchuck of text but once you've taken it for a spin a couple of times you'll be an html expert ;-)
