In my pursuit of Nurse Jackie's scarf I've learnt a few things, and not just about crochet...
1. There is an excellent thread on ravelry.com about Nurse Jackie's Scarf, you'll need a Ravelry account to see it, but after you've signed up, swing by KathiKraftyzales projects: Nurse Jackie Scarf for some great photos to set you on your way.
2. If you decide to follow the bullion (flower / circle) track and need a (visual) hand with the stitch take a peek at the following YouTube videos:
Art of Crochet by Teresa: How to Make the Crochet Bullion or Roll Stitch
Art of Crochet by Teresa: Crochet Bullion Flower
3. while poking around various crochet sites I found "scrumble" (free form crochet)... too cool!
I've fallen in love with the work of Prudence Mapstone, explore her amazing scrumbles and more on flickr freeform by prudence.
4. sometimes "close" is in fact "close enough"
As much as I love Nurse Jackie's scarf, after poking around so many crochet possibilities I eventually opted for creative license and decided to boldly stray from the path.
In my own "I've mastered 1 crochet stitch and have to YouTube it every time" way I ventured forth with 2 x 100gm balls of Moda Vera Akala wool (so soft!), the basic concept of Caron: Mesh Scarf with Posies and my youtube playlist Elissa - Crochet Scarf.
